SUM OF PARTS
My very first exhibited work!
Sum of Parts is somewhat about the medium photography itself. A composition of twenty-five pieces that have been cut out of an original picture - portraits, buildings and textures that create a reality in itself.
A picture is a segment, a fragment or a part of the outside world that the photographer has chosen to emphasize. That particular segment of what we call reality is now placed on a pedestal and has acquired a form of importance because by cropping it away from its surroundings the photographer has said, “look, this is special”.
By cropping segments out of existing pictures, these parts become complete pictures themselves. Put together as in a grid they tell a story itself creating a bigger picture.
